Web 2.0 is about participation.

Web users are wanting to contribute more and more as they are increasingly comfortable with using technology in their daily lives. So user user-contributed content via Web2.0 applications – Blogs, Wikis, Syndication, Aggregation – is becoming the norm.

Online Communities bring all these applications together. But in our experience, need attention to some bigger issues as well, if they are to be successful. Online Communities need:

  • to provide a cause / focus
  • a low barrier to entry
  • to make people feel safe
  • a concerted push for critical mass
  • to cater to all skill levels

Above all, the Online Community needs to feel as 'human' as possible.
A long way from the static pages of Web 1.0.
