SSL Certificate Setup

Part of your new Association Online Web Application is the ability for your members to make purchases for

  • Membership Signups
  • Membership Renewals
  • Event Registrations

During the checkout process the Web Application switches to an encrypted session, meaning all billing information is securely transmitted between your member’s web browser and the web server.

To enable this trusted encrypted session a valid SSL certificate is required.

ASI will maintain the SSL certificate for your site as part of your hosting package. However, due to the nature of how SSL certificates are issued from Certificate Authorities some extra setup is required.

Domain Control Validation

Establishing a secure, encrypted and trusted connection to a web server relies on

  • an SSL certificate that has been issued by a known Certificate Authority
  • an SSL certificate that matches the Fully Qualified Domain Name of the web site (eg. https://www.ivt.com.au)

Because of the types of data that can be transmitted over secure connections, Certificate Authorities need to ensure that those buying SSL certificates from them are the rightful owners of the Domain Names being ordered on these certificates. To do this, they employ a validation process called Domain Control Validation.

Domain control validation requires a specific email address to be set up and to be directed to a real person who can act on the validation email when it arrives.

Ordering an SSL Certificate for your new IVT Web Application

IVT will place an order on your behalf for an SSL certificate based on the final domain name for your new site.

Provide an email address

To ensure the SSL certificate can be issued successfully and in a timely manner, you are required to set up the following email alias:

webmaster@yourdomain.org.au => hostmaster@ivt.com.au
